Each house comes with a comfy sleeping area (one or two beds), a dining area with a small dining table, and a bathroom complete with a flushing toilet and a really nice shower (with plenty of hot water!). The kitchen is well-equipped for easy meals and potable water, and other than groceries, you don’t really need to bring a whole lot with you.
And, since we’re all SO glued to our devices, each cabin comes with a Cellphone Lockbox, encouraging guests to stow their tech away and be present. Staying in a Getaway cabin was a great experience for me. I love the concept of staying inside a tiny cabin away from the hustle of a city.
It’s similar to a campground where there’s a loop of cabins nicely spread out from each other. At the Getaway House Shenandoah location, the closest cabin to us was over 200 feet away. I never felt like anyone was too close to us, and I also never felt unsafe. The tiny cabins are placed among nature in the woods and are used as a means to disconnect from the busyness of the city, technology, spend time in nature, and focus on relaxing. Because of the secluded nature of our outposts, cell phone service may be a little spottier than normal.
